Birthday Treat

You sat across the table;
       We dined to celebrate.
You sat across the table
       With nothing to relate.

I cleared the pitchy harbours,
       Dredged something up of me,
Offered it, leaning forward,
       For you to see.

You sat across the table,
       You leaned back in your chair;
You sat across the table
       And said you couldn't hear.
